Human Rights is back and this album kicks ass! Its pretty straight forward mix of punk/hardcore/rock and reggae that H.R. has been known for through out the years. I think what sets this apart is a straight up nice production value that can be appreciated. The only issue is the disjointed nature of the album as a whole. The Reggae tends to be the strong point on the album, and the rock parts remind me of I Against I era Bad Brains, not great, but good none the less. Over all a four out of five in my book. Pick it up while you can.

I'm a big fan of finding stuff from far away places. While i know very little about punk rock from Iran, I hear that you can get in trouble for playing certain types of music(?). Anyway, The bands on this comp tend to very from traditional type music, to industrial and metal tinged stuff. worth the download.

E-zine

So about nine or ten months ago I started working on an e-zine with no real ambition. I worked on fancy graphics and all this other crap and then with the birth of my daughter, I somewhat abandoned all plans.However, I worked hard on that thing so, I'm going to continue what I started and release things in pieces. I think my goal when I started the zine was to find bands from out of nowhere and bring them to the western world. Like, case in point, who knew that there are punk bands from Uzbekistan? Or that China has a thriving oi! scene? Im also going to work on the format a little bit, seeing as how courier is kinda a pain in the tookis to read. OH! and I almost forgot, we are android compatible now! So you can browse the blog and download the tunes directly to your Android device. God bless technology!
Another thing in the works are the upload of Where The Wild Things Are comp series originally put out by Sabbel fanzine from Germany in the late 90's or mid 2000's. I have been unable to find the complete series as of yet, but I will be posting them soon! Anyway, thats all for now kiddies!

Occupy Wall Street.....From Protest to Resistance

When we live in this world were the poor become more so and the rich get richer, we need to stand our ground against the tyrants and remember to resist and exist. The Occupy Wall Street movement is profound. We need to eliminate this system of class based warfare of the rich vs. the poor and middle classes. The reaction has been absolutely absurd, both in the media(Skewed) and the Police (Cases of police brutality), and hopefully the resentment that is driving these people to react will ride this wave to something more profound and deeper. This country is fucked, well, the world is basically fucked as long as the "1%" run the world as autocratic kings and queens of industry and business. The one percent are turn America into a third world country based solely on the amount of their greed. Unionization is at an all time low, Unemployment at an all time high; This is not what our founding fathers envisioned when they built this country. This is not what I want for my country and the misery and suffering it has brought to the world around us is sick and sad. Just look at the bullshit with the world bank and how they are systematically destroying Africa and the rest of under developed countries world wide, or how BP dumped millions of gallons of oil into the Golf Of Mexico and acted like it wasn't a big deal. Its ironic how so many people are living hand to mouth in America and the government gives billions of dollars to corporations who's poor management resulted in the loss of billions of dollars and the home market crash which disadvantaged millions of people. Or the greatest nation on earth can leave so many people below the poverty line without any form of assistance, whether it be medical coverage, housing support or food stamps because they make too much, but yet can barely make their bills? Or they tell ya to get an education or else you wont be able to get a job, so people are extorted into taking student loans, than after pissing away time and getting into debt, cant get jobs anyway? It's time for a change and they need to know this, we need to let it be known and I hope regardless of politics, that we can all stand in solidarity and say "WE DON'T NEED YOUR SHIT". Like I said in my last post, I'm planning on kinda diversifying. I'm thinking more of a webzine thing, with rare punk being the focus, but also politics, reviews, etc etc. Here's first in a line of out of print stuff that's not really hard to find exactly, but added here more for convenience than anything.
Not much to really say about the Goo Goo Dolls, other than their early stuff is amazing and the later stuff is total crap. The first three albums are very Husker Du, Replacements, and early Soul Asylum geared. The first album is simply amazing, with the later albums becoming more pop punk/collage rock orientated. These are defiantly little heard Gems!

I know I haven't kept up with this blog in well over a year or so, however I do want people to know that it isn't dead yet! I'm going to start changing the focus of this blog to mainly politics, life and out of print music. I will be removing stuff that's in print and perhaps do an overhaul on the graphics/layout. This post has been one of serious frustration. Mainly because the band I'm going to post discography is almost impossible to track down in its entirety (and Ive been trying for well over ten plus years). Thankfully, I have been able to find almost everything from 1981 to 1986, with exception to one version of the "Open Eyes, Open Ears, Brains to Think and a Mouth to Speak " LP on Rude Records. Anyway, the band I'm talking about is Upright Citizens from Bottrop Germany. Probably one of my favorite bands of all time, The UC formed in 1981 and lasted till 2003 and have released well over a dozen records. For some reason, all of their early stuff is pretty easy to find, however, It's mainly the later stuff which has become damn near impossible for me to track down. Here is the discography:

Ok, I have no info on the second cover, if its a repress or a what, but I found it over at Good Mu sic For Bad Bad Times. This was repressed on a cassette that was put out by the band called "Cross Section" )Which I have no info on, as well as the 1994 repress of "Make The future Mine and Yours LP" on Impact! records, and a third time by Ox Fanzine in 2001. Assuming both the prices and the scarceity of the represses that they're out of print.

Upright Citizens - OPEN EYES, OPEN EARS, BRAINS TO THINK AND A MOUTH TO SPEAK LP (Rude 1984/ BYO 1985)

This is one that confuses me.Firstly, there are two versions of this LP. The first version was pressed on Rude in 1984, and according to sources, it is a totally different recording then what came out on BYO Records in 1985. However, Ive never been able to find a copy of the Rude pressing, so, I cant verify that. All I know is that I have a cassette copy of the BYO press and it seems that the bass and treble are super high. Inccidently, There was a copy pressed in 1991 from Spain that sounds to have a different mix then the BYO records pressing. It also has different artwork. you can see it over at 1000 Asprines Blogsite (the tracks have been taken down, And I do have a copy of it somewhere, but I have to find them). It was also repressed in 1994 with the "Kiss Me Now 12" EP, which I will also post here.

I've basically gotten sick of blogging. I'm not planing on stopping, I just need to figure out in what direction I want to take this. I feel that having a blog that focuses mainly on punk is a limiting thing, considering my love of music of all genres. Also the frustration of the blogosphere being as expansive and huge as it is, it's kinda hard to be original . I also deleted several older post that had stuff that was fairly easy to find, In favor of more obscure and harder to find items, out of print stuff and KBD/Bloodstains type stuff, but not limited to any specific genre. I guess some albums change peoples lives in profound ways, and I know I've posted a lot of rants and raves about the "Welcome to 1984" comp in the past, and this is another related post. Ive spent years tracking down most of the output of the bands on the comp, and i have almost succeeded. Here is a chronicle of another band whom out of all of the bands on that comp, Ive loved most. Olho Seco formed in San Paulo in 1980, with members of Colera. I don't know much about them other then they still play, there from Brazil and they are AWESOME! There's a good link at Kill From The Heart.

Ive always had a big thing for Scandinavian and Finish thrash and hardcore. I think M.R.R.'s "Welcome to 1984" exposed me to some amazing shit, Mainly Rattus, The Bristles, The Headcleaners( or HUVUDTVÄTT as they are also known). It was as always downhill from there. The First offering is something that Ive been on the lookout for a good long while is the AMAZING "Beating The Meat" comp. It was released on the Xcentric Noise label (who also put stuff out by the Cult Manix, The Headcleaners, and Born BC). Its Been Forever

I know I haven't been a regular poster on this thing, mush to my dismay. I guess somehow the novelty wore off, and I got busy with this thing called life. Anyway, to recap the last eight months since I've posted: Got Married, got nicked, went to jail, spent six months away from home on probation, got back home (Pretty intense I know).
I set out initially to never cover stuff like politics or to discuss life issues, but I guess that politics,music and life issues tend to go hand in hand. I was watching the documentary "The Future Is Unwritten" last night with the wife and it made me truly think about life and the term "Heroes". It seems to be something thrown around a lot and directed towards a lot of lame and undeserving people. What really makes a hero anyway? You can become a hero by serving your country, being a soldier; but I think that's just being of a solid mind and doing ones duty. I don't know how many vets I've met who just say " I was just doing my job" and take no glory in being a "Hero". Then however on the other hand, you have undeserving wankers being labeled heroes that simply don't deserve the recognition. Politicians who take credit for things that they don't live up to; lame, bloated musicians and rock stars who;s excessive lifestyles make me sick and etc. We have to face it that so many in our society look up to these lame fuck heads and aspire to become like them: useless. Celebrity's tend to be my main point for aggression. Its sad that so many adolescent girls look up to useless people like Britney Spears, Paris Hilton, various reality TV personalities. OK, anyone who tries to validate that Britney Spears has talent is taking a piss in the ocean. She was mass produced, doesn't write her own songs or music. Paris Hilton is only famous because she's a lame rich kid, who's excess and hedonism made her career and the Reality TV world is just people grasping notoriety because of a piss poor attitude or they fall under whats in style. Its sad.
"The future is Unwritten" was for the lack of a better term beautiful. When I think of a hero I do think of Joe Strummer. The Clash were the first band to really introduce me to punk, to social politics, and to of all things my love of all things that are Black Music. He never basked in useless excess, or shallow ideals; Never was one to run with fame without really acknowledging where it came from: Us. How many big name musicians will stand out in front of a gig giving out tickets, or making sure that we get in and are taken care of? That to me is a hero. Someone who cares about what they do.
So in honour of Joe, I'm going to post a few Clash goodies.

The Clash - Out Of Control Demos

I cant really recall what blog I found this on, needless to say, Its post Mick Jones. I know many people who will sit and say that Cut The Crap was the worst Clash album ever and yo be honest, you're not incorrect. This however is simply amazing. While not exactly what most would consider to be "classic Clash", it is good. I think it mirrors both the 101'ers and his future work with the Mescaleros . Its a shame that this mix wasn't cleaned up to become Cut The Crap. In case most of you don't know, a few songs from this made it to the album, but under Bernie Rhodes loving mix. He replaced most of the drum tracks with drum machines and added a lot of useless garbage.

The Clash - Live On WXRT 9/14/1979

This was an old radio broadcast from the mid 80's(?) of a live show in Chicago. I think that this was one of the best periods for live Clash audio. They still had the energy that was somewhat listless towards the end of there career .

What a concept. Two records, all DIY, for a cheap price. Released in 1980, Bullshit Detector was an epitome of the Do It Yourself concept. Consisting of demo tapes, rough works, and artwork sent in from various bands and people. This record is also notable for being the first vinyl release of Amebix.

This is the record that everyone has heard of, but how many people have actually HEARD this record? One of the many scams that Crass had their fingers in(along with the amusing "OUR Wedding" Flexi), this one was leaked in a kiddie mag if im not mistaken. Heres some of the typing on the sleeve:

Merry Crassmas is another fine release from "Creative Recording and Sound Services". "C.R.A.S.S. is the name and C.R.A.S.S. is the game," as it reads on the record sleeve. Here's what else it says:

I don't really have a lot of info on the Fight Back! label as a whole, I do know that they released various stuff that was tied to the Motorhate label in the mid eighties. This is not as good as the We Don't Want Your Fucking War comp that came out a year before. The only strong stuff on this comp would be the tracks by The Insane, Partisans, and the Upright Citizens stuff, but none the less a good comp.
